Our Vision

Everyone is different and not every child thrives in the larger class sizes and busier environments that State schools offer. This is where smaller, independent provisions can shine. Affording opportunities to children who would struggle to meet their full potential elsewhere.

When St Clare’s was faced with closure, we were inundated with stories about the difference that it had made to so many families. Helping them to mitigate the impact of bereavement, neuro-diversity, anxiety, shyness, bullying and so much more. You can read some of the impact stories here.

Once the closure of the existing school was confirmed, SCIST acted immediately to try to ensure that, inline with land covenants, the school site can remain dedicated to educational use. As such we propose opening a new independent offering, with a modern structure and outlook, attuned to the needs of the local community.

We envisage a non-selective school with manageable school fees and a range of financial bursaries to make it as accessible as possible. A not-for-profit and charity status will allow the school to operate more leanly, and for 100% of the fees and funds to be pushed directly into education.

Mission & Values

SCIST’s mission is to deliver high-quality independent education in Porthcawl, combining academic ambition with strong pastoral care and a clear sense of community. We will provide the individual attention and breadth of opportunity expected of the independent sector, underpinned by a not-for-profit governance model that reinvests all surpluses into education and community benefit.

Academic Excellence – structured teaching, high expectations, and small classes to outperform national benchmarks.

Support and Inclusivity – teachers supported by a designated Wellbeing Lead, and support staff who know every child personally. Each child will be recognised and supported as an individual.

Community Focus – fees are fully invested into pupil outcomes, bursary support, and community partnerships, aligning the school with local values rather than shareholder returns.
